Artificial respiration is an emergency medical technique where air is supplied to the lungs through mechanical means when a patient has stopped breathing on their own.

In modern medicine, the ventilator is the most common method of maintaining artificial respiration for lengthy periods of time. However, in an emergency, an ambu bag or even mouth-to-mouth respiration can be used. It's a key component in CPR.
