Cameron's first husband was the late first spouse of Allison Cameron, who died before the start of the series. Cameron married him when she was 21, but was aware that he had terminal thyroid cancer. Six months later, he died as the cancer had metastasized to his brain. Before her husband died, however, Cameron did take the precaution of freezing his surviving sperm, which she collected from the semen she made him ejaculate, in case she wished to get pregnant with his children, and if he was not here with her to conceive.
