Thumb forceps, aka "tweezers" courtesy Zephyris, via Wikipedia

Medical forceps are an instrument used by physicians for grabbing and holding objects.  They come in many sizes depending on the projected use.  Small forceps are used to firmly grasp small objects, such as splinters, for removal.  Larger forceps can be used during childbirth to assist the newborn baby through the birth canal.  Some forceps have a locking mechanism and can double as clamps during surgery.  Although most are made of metal and are sterilized between uses, there are also plastic forceps that are one-use and disposable.
