Hippocrates was a Greek physician who was born in the 5th century B.C.E.  He is widely regarded to be the father of  Western medicine and developed the first code of medical ethics - the Hippocratic Oath.  He established medicine as a separate field of study from other forms of scientific and philosophical thought.  He developed the field of clinical medicine and helped systematize both existing knowledge and new discoveries.  

Many conditions were first described in the works developed by Hippocrates or the people who worked with him including diabetes mellitus and the association of clubbing with lung cancer,
