A hypersegmented neutrophil is a clinical finding where neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) are observed to have six or more nucleii (up to four is normal as neutrophils create nucleii as they age). It is an indication that the patient has anemia caused by the failure of the bone marrow to create DNA, although it has also been seen in patients with iron deficiency.
