An isolation suit is a specialized piece of medical equipment designed to protect medical personnel from extremely contagious infection or environmental toxins. Depending on the level of isolation involved, it will either have an air handling system that disinfects incoming air (often with ultraviolet light) or has a complete self-contained breathing aparatus with its own oxygen supply. They are made out of materials that are themselves easy to disinfect and keep clean, allowing them to be treated with ultraviolet light, disinfectants and air currents to remove existing infections. The suit itself is non-porous and air-tight.
Isolation suits play a key role in several episodes:
- In Euphoria (Part 1) and Euphoria (Part 2), isolation suits are required when Eric Foreman contracts an illness after visiting Joe Luria's apartment.
- In A Pox on Our House, the CDC denounces the teams isolation suits as inadequate.
- In Post Mortem, Taub and Park don isolation suits to search the morgue when they suspect an environmental toxin.
