James Earl Jones (January 17, 1931 - Spetember 9, 2024)' was an Academy Award nominated American actor and voice actor who despite a career spanning 50 years will forever be remembered for an initially uncredited voice role as the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars series. On House, M.D., he portrayed dictator President Dibala in the Season 6 episode The Tyrant. Jones is also known for his role as Admiral James Greer in the Jack Ryan films The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, and Clear and Present Danger, co-starring with Harrison Ford in the latter two, and Alec Baldwin in the former.
Originally a Broadway actor, Jones first came to prominence in films in the role of Lt. Lothar Zogg in Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove. Since then, he has had featured roles in Dr. Kildare, Claudine, The UFO Incident, The Greatest, Exorcist II: The Heretic, Paul Robeson, Paris, Freedom to Speak, Conan the Barbarian, Moses, Gardens of Stone, Coming to America, Field of Dreams, Gabriel's Fire, Pros and Cons, Sneakers, The Sandlot, The Vernon Johns Story, The Lion King, Under One Roof, Cry, The Beloved Country, A Family Thing, Our Friend Martin, Recess Christmas: Miracle on Third Street, Robots, The Sandlot 2, Welcome Back Roscoe Jenkins, and Jack and the Beanstalk.
He has won two Tony awards and was the only person in history to win two Emmy Awards in the same year.
Jones died on September 9, 2024 at the age of 93.
