Menopause is the life phase in females where their menstrual cycles start becoming less regular until the production of eggs for fertilization stops completely. It generally occurs in females in their 40s, although some women continue to menstruate until their reach their 50s.
The change in hormone cycles during this period of life often cause other neurological and physical symptoms, such as mood swings and hot flashes. Hormone replacement therapy can often ameliorate these symptoms.
There have been several instances on House when women facing imminent menopause become almost desperate to have children. This was a major theme in the episode Fetal Position, where the patient refused an abortion even though the odds of the fetus surviving were negligible. Lisa Cuddy has also tried to have a child, and has suffered a miscarriage in the attempt.
