Methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid drug and is used for its anti-inflammatory properties and for the treatment of autoimmune diseases and metabolic diseases. It is most commonly used to treat arthritis and bronchitis.

Short term side effects of the drug are manageable, but long term use poses more problems, including weight gain, glaucoma, osteoporosis, and psychosis. It also suppresses cortisol production and, if the drug is discontinued, Addison's disease may result.
