Mononeuritis multiplex is a form of peripheral neuropathy characterized by pain and asymmetry that affects at least two motor nerve systems. It can affect any two or more sets of nerves anywhere in the body. In general, as the symptom progresses, the pain becomes less focused and more symmetrical. It is the result of damage to the nerve cells involved.

It can have several causes, including diabetes mellitus, vasculitis, amyloidosis, tumor, polyarteritis nodosa, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and paraneoplastic syndrome. Several infections are also associated with the condition.

If the underlying condition is not treated, the condition can progress to deformity, atrophy, disturbance of organ function and erectile dysfunction.
