The motor cortex is the part of the cerebral cortex responsible for voluntary movement.  It is broken down into several main parts:

  • The primary motor cortex
  • The premotor cortex
  • The supplementary motor area
  • The posterior pareital cortex; and
  • The primary somatosensory cortex
