A nodule refers to any relatively hard, roughly spherical abnormal growth in the body.  They commonly form on tendons and muscles in response to injury.  They can also form on the vocal cords.  They are generally benign although they can often affect the function of any organ they are attached to.

In Three Stories, the Volleyball player's adenoma was diagnosed when a nodule was found in her leg and she was given an MRI as a result.
