The pancreas is a small organ that sits below the stomach in the abdomen. It secretes a number of enzymes into the digestive system and hormones into the bloodstream. Primary among these hormones is insulin, which allows the cells of the body to absorb glucose from the bloodstream efficiently.

Alcohol abuse can bring about pancreatitis, an inflammation of the organ that can result in nausea and severe pain.
