A pharmacy is a place where prescription pharmaceuticals are dispensed to patients based on a physician's prescription. A pharmacy is always run under the supervision of a pharmacist who is responsible for the accuracy of the medication dispensed and must provide a proper inventory to appropriate regulatory authorities, particularly where controlled drugs such as narcotics are involved. A pharmacy may also hire assistants and technicians to assist with these functions.

Like most hospitals, Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital has an on-site pharmacy. It's public face is on the main floor opposite the clinic and provides drugs for walk-in patients in the clinic. However, the pharmacy is a much larger operation and has a large "backstage" space where drugs are prepared for the hospital's in-patients, most of which are on medication.

PPTH's pharmacy is overseen by Stan, the head pharmacist, who is responsible for the hospital's entire inventory of drugs. He has several dispensing pharmacists, such as Marco, and technicians like Oscar Silva who double check pharmacy orders and assist with paperwork.
