Ward 6 is Gregory House's day ward at Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital.
It's for long-term patients who do not pose a danger to themselves or others.
Dr. Beasley is the supervising physician for the ward with assistance from Anthony Medina and other Nurses.
History[]
After going through a lengthy process of detoxing from Vicodin which he had been taking to deal with his damaged right leg, House who had arrived at Mayfield to seek treatment for psychosis was transferred to Ward 6 after his detox period ended.
Almost immediately, House refused to cooperate with the Doctors and Nurses, preferring to resort to threats in the belief it would help him leave Mayfield earlier than usual but after an incident with Steve or Freedom Masters who had tried to kill himself, the event leaving Steve badly injured and confined to a wheelchair, House, acknowledging his faults began taking his meds and having one-on-one sessions with Dr. Nolan.
During that time, House also had a brief relationship with Lydia, the sister-in-law of Annie Bohm or "Silent Girl", a woman who hadn't spoken in ten years but when House realized Lydia was married and that she refused to leave her husband or break up her family for him, their relationship or affair came to an end, House finding the strength to approach Nolan at the parking lot that night and tell him what had happened.
Nolan, impressed, told the other man he was going to write a letter recommending House get his medical licence back, Nolan pleased that House had chosen to talk to him rather than begin using drugs.
The next morning, after bidding farewell to the fellow patients including his roommate, Alvie, House received his own "Happy Re-Birthday cake" and in a move that surprised everyone, shoved his head into the cake.
House later departed Mayfield and presumably took a bus back to Princeton, New Jersey, wearing one of Alvie's own t-shirts that had a big smiley face on it.
Meanwhile, Alvie, presumably inspired by House's actions approached the nurses's station, informing Dr. Beasley he wanted medication so that he could start getting better too.
Appearance[]
The main room of Ward 6 is a huge room that has a ping-pong table in the centre of it, the patients later receiving rackets after House led a rebellion for that, allowing them to play. There's also a nurses station where the patients go to ask for something or receive their medication at the beginning of the day.
Whenever group therapy is held, a large circle of chairs are brought out so that everyone can participate.
Behind the nurse's station, in the office areas, there are various desks and chairs where the other Doctors work and where the patients go to talk to a Doctor overseeing their treatment.
In the main room, there's also a piano that is kept locked at all times with only visitors to the ward being given a key, allowing them to play the piano.
Outside the room is a staircase that leads down to a basketball court where the patients can either play basketball with each other or sit on one of the benches.
There's also a system where different levels can be reached by cooperating with the medical staff. Lower level people have limited privileges but higher-level people have greater access to other things such as using the phone or going to other floors, presumably in the hospital.
Whenever a patient is deemed healthy enough to leave Mayfield, a ceremony is held for them where they receive a cake that says "Happy Re-Birthday" on it, Dr. Beasley leading the celebrations as they all hope to never see the patient again.
Known patients who have received the cake are Susan, Silent Girl, and House (Broken).
